My last posting is comparing between Camtasia Studio, BB Flashback Pro and AVS Video Editor. In the end I choose AVS Video Editor as the best choice, because it offer good editing like the others two, but offered in a much lower price tag.
I Buy it, and using it several times, but I never really sure that the software is really that bad. I can’t really do any screen cast using AVS Video Editor because the video tend to go faster than my speech.
I suspected that it is a result for my Laptop’s low specification, a Sony Vaio with Core i3 Dual Processor powered with only 2 GB of RAM. But after upgrading the memory the problem is persist. Even after I remove and install AVS Video Editor again 🙁
Driven by my curiosity, I browse some free (trial) alternatives to AVS Video Editor like SMRecorder, Screencast-o-matic, ActivePresenter, and oCam. From all of these programs, there is no one of them having the same issue, all videos created by them sync perfectly with my speech.
This is my video review that help you explain how can’t I use my recording from AVS Video Editor;
So my conclusion is now that AVS Video Editor’s screen recorder function is not working like what I hoped for. I keep it on my laptop to do editing works and leave the recording process to one of the alternatives I tried before.
Which one? Let me explain you one by one first before I come to my final conclusion.
1. ActivePresenter by Atomic
This program is really powerful, it even bring so much more power about how we want to export our video. It can be really powerful, the editing capabilities is more than what I hope available for a screencasting software, you can check it on Atomic website itself.
The bad thing about ActivePresenter is that it will draw a watermark on my video, not like what they said on the page. That alone already stops me to continue using the product, because to get the Standard or Professional Version I need to spend $299/$399.
I just trying to use this program twice, it is light and really useful. What I didn’t like from oCam is that it bring up ads on it interface. It can’t hide it’s window during the beginning or at the end of recording, so prior to editing we must cut that portion of the video first. Don’t even bother to think that this little screencast software able to do that editing job.
This is a good program to do what it means to do. Recording a screen is good and clear. The video above is recorded using SMRecorder, edited in AVS Video Editor.
I even consider to buy a pro version to remove the ads that appear on the program beside the list of videos I just created before. It pretty good deal to be able to use SMRecorder without any additional fee after paying $20.
But having that there are no clue about how to edit the video (if there is any editor) and no capabilities to use web cam during a screencast hols me back to buy the product.
And finally, this is my choice. The first time I test the program, I feel that this can be the one I use for the next time.The recording limit for 15 minutes is OK for general screen cast, more than enough. The only limit is is has watermark on the output video.
After visiting the tutorial pages, I believe I can stay to using it. More over I have another tool to polish my video after finish recording.
Yearly payment for $15 can also a good choice, I can stop whenever I want without feeling that I wasted my money for something that supposed to be working forever but can’t serve me like what I hoped for.
